Private David Kennedy

The background of this North Irish Horseman is not certain. The Presbyterian Church in Ireland's Roll of Honour and a report in the Ballymena Observer from August 1917 give his address as Blackstown, Broughshane. On that basis he is most likely to be the David Kennedy born on 8 September 1898 at Ballyligpatrick, Ballymena, County Antrim, the fifth of nine children of agricultural labourer Robert Kennedy and his wife Agnes (née Turtle). At the time of the 1911 Census he was living at Ballyligpatrick with his parents and siblings.

Kennedy enlisted in the North Irish Horse in late July or early August 1917 (regimental number not known at present). He would have trained at the regiment's reserve camp at Antrim before being demobilised in 1919, not having seen overseas service.
